Sad news yesterday from the community college football coaching ranks: ELAC Athletics has learned that former coach and current Los Angeles Harbor College defensive consultant Reuben Ale has passed away. Ale was on ELAC's staff during the 2000 season when the team earned a postseason invite to the CHIPS For Kids Bowl (at Weingart Stadium).
Ale was known for his commitment to his teams and players. In an 2006 article for the LA Times, Ale was noted for giving opportunities non-traditional students who may not have always walked a straight path. "Everyone deserves a second chance and that's what the junior college experience is all about," Ale said. "We've got to keep our doors open to these kids."
