Down 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, sophomore Steven Villagran hit a long fly ball to left that initially had "homerun" written all over it. But it wasn't quite hit far enough, and Glendale left fielder Alex Mills had a bead on it all the way. The catch was made, and the Huskies would come up short.

Facing a damaging upset loss to a 7-10 West LA team, the Huskies found their footing at just the right time to put away their crosstown opponent. The game was a makeup of the December 27th match-up that was postponed due to Covid restrictions.

Both men and women's basketball began SCC-North conference play this week. The women netted wins road over Rio Hondo and LA Trade Tech, while the men had their game at Rio postponed, but defeated Tech to push their current winning streak to seven.

It's been 22 months since the East LA Men's Basketball team played on their home floor. After a year off due to Covid and spending the first two months of the 2021-22 season on the road, the Huskies finally played host, beating an overmatched El Camino Warriors squad by almost 70 points, 111-43.

After 22 months, the East LA College women's basketball team finally returned to their home court to hit the hardwood. They were victorious in their home debut, beating the #3-ranked College of the Canyons 83-65.

The Okawa Classic made its successful return to Monterey Park, but not without one substantial hiccup. West LA College was unable to travel across town due to Covid concerns, which left ELAC without a Day 1 opponent.

Sophomore forward Dezmond Washington scored 16 points in leading a balanced Huskies attack in an improved performance, overwhelming the Long Beach City Vikings in the 2nd half en route to an 88-74 victory.

In ELAC's return trip to the state finals after the COVID layoff, the Pack sent six players, and all six took home medals and hardware as each placed within the state's top-ten for their respective weight classes. The Huskies capped a triumphant return to the mats this season by finishing seventh-best in the state.

Defense has been the anchor of head coach Bruce Turner's tenure with ELAC women's basketball, and tonight was no exception. In Day Two of the Lady Chargers Tournament, the Huskies defense wrecked havoc on Grossmont's offensive sets, with missed shots and turnovers turning into points at the other end. A dominant performance saw ELAC nearly double up the Griffins 77-39, setting up another shot at Palomar College tomorrow, the lone team the Huskies has lost to so far this season.

A back-and-forth game saw the ELAC Huskies trail El Camino by only two at the end of the third quarter quarter. But the Warriors shut out the Huskies in the fourth quarter 13-0 to turn away East LA's bid to win their first bowl game as a National league member.
