With COVID-19 forcing the California JUCO sports world to postpone all athletic competition to January 2021, we check in with ELAC Athletic Director and head football coach Bobby Godinez to discuss the current landscape of Huskies Athletics.
Due to rising COVID-19 case numbers - along with the state having to roll back reopening plans - the CCCAA has decided ahead of its July 17th board meeting to implement a modified Contingency plan to push ALL fall sports back to January 2021. The rise in coronavirus cases means that California will not likely approach Phase 4 of it's reopening plans, a metric that the CCCAA board was relying upon to continue to pursue some startup of fall sports in late August/September.
Sophomore track athlete Daniel Morales had two scholarship offers on the table, but eschewed them to chase his dream of running for UCLA. He will attempt to make the Bruins' Track team next season as a walk-on.
Continuing our Ask A Husky article series, we stop in with ELAC Softball to chat with sophomore first baseman Puatausaga "Pua" Johnson. Ms. Johnson was hitting .407 with 16 RBIs in 17 games for the 12-6 Huskies when play was suspended.
Despite the sports stoppage, there's still plenty to talk about when it comes to ELAC Athletics. We sit down (virtually) with Athletic Director and head football coach Bobby Godinez to cover a variety of Huskies-related topics.
