MONTEREY PARK, CA — The East Los Angeles College baseball team loaded the bases after two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning in a home game against Citrus College today.
Sophomore second baseman Benjamin Arce (Santa Monica High School) doubled. Freshman left fielder Anthony Soto (Garfield HS) walked. A pitch hit freshman right fielder Ryan Orozco (Montebello HS).
Freshman third baseman Matthew Sosa (Whittier HS) then singled in the winning run and ELAC took the second meeting this year against Citrus (5-7-1), this one a 2-1, 10-hit victory. The Huskies won 9-0 at Citrus on Feb. 2.
Sophomore Ozzie Cano (Charter Oak HS) who pitched his second inning of the season, the 11th, was the winning pitcher (1-0).
ELAC used six pitchers, Citrus five. ELAC had nine strikes, two each from freshman Adrian Cardenas (Sierra Vista HS) who pitched 3.2 innings, freshman Bernie Fernandez (Cathedral HS) in 2.1 innings of work and sophomore Matthew Cortez (Cantwell Sacred Heart HS) who pitched one inning.
Arce totaled three hits two of them singles. Two Huskies each pounded two hits, Sosa (one RBI) and sophomore center fielder Morgan Lomax (Gardena Serra HS).
Three Huskies belted one single each, Soto, sophomore designated hitter Kyle Francis (WA / Redmond HS) and freshman first baseman Joaquin Castillo (Warren HS). Soto and Castillo each had an RBI.
The Huskies (7-7) host Los Angeles Harbor College (4-9-1) on Thursday, March 2 at 6 p.m. and play at Harbor on Saturday, March 4 at noon. The Huskies won last season’s series, 2-1.
