WHAT: East L.A. College vs. Rio Hondo College Men’s & Women’s Basketball Doubleheader Benefit for Toys for Tots

WHERE: East L.A. College South Gym 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez, Monterey Park, California 91754

WHEN: Wednesday Nov. 11, 3 p.m. & 5 p.m.  

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The 2014-15 state runner-up East Los Angeles College men’s basketball team and state championship semifinalist women’s team each play their first home game Wednesday, Nov. 11 as a benefit for Toys for Tots.

All attending may donate one unwrapped toy per person for free admission to benefit children in local hospitals during the Holiday Season.

The No. 6-ranked (CCCAA South Region) women’s team plays Rio Hondo at 3 p.m. followed by the ELAC men’s team, ranked No. 6 in the state (Massey Ratings for CCCAA) in a 5 p.m. game vs. No. 21 Rio Hondo.

ELAC women’s Head Coach Bruce Turner is looking to a fourth playoff appearance in five years. The Huskies were Elite-Eight in 2012 and a Final Four team last year.

The ELAC men’s team returns 2014 state championship game participants 6’9” forward Richard Bivens, 6’7” guard Miles Ford and 6’9” forward Dashawn Hill. ELAC Head Coach John Mosley had his best recruiting year that includes 6’3” guard Iziahiah Sweeney, a transfer from Portland State. As a high school graduating senior in 2014, Sweeney was ranked the 44th-best shooting guard in the country by ESPN.

In three years, Mosley coached ELAC to its first conference title in 42 years (2013-14), a state championship game (2014-15) and postseason appearances each season.
