NORWALK, CA — The East Los Angeles College men's track and field team improved in its second meet of the season at the Cerritos Combined Events/Relays Opener at Cerritos College.

ELAC recorded two 2016 personal records in relay events.

The Husky 4 X 800-relay team placed third and outsprinted a Cerritos quartet at the finish line by 1.6 seconds.

The ELAC team consisted of sophomores Cristian Flores (Bell Gardens HS), Justin Torres (Alhambra HS) and freshmen Enrique Angulo (El Rancho HS) and Anthony Jovel (Bell Gardens HS), who together, knocked off 13.17 seconds from earlier this month.

ELAC ran two 4 X 4,000-distance medley relay teams. Each broke last season's best time.

The faster "B" team, however, got their personal record posted in Direct Athletics, a national sports website that includes college top times, which includes ELAC's best results in each event.

The "B" team consisted of freshmen Antonio Chamu (Los Angeles River School), Robin Joseph (Bravo Medical Magnet HS) and sophomores Agustin Arias (Montebello HS) and Fernando Jauregui (Hollywood HS).

They edged teammates Torres, Jovel, Flores and Angulo who represented the ELAC "A" team.

ELAC sophomore Cesar Santiesteban (Cathedral High School) won the men's shot put and is undefeated in the event this year.

He defeated Isaiah Chavez (Downey HS) of the host college, 43.65 feet to 43.54.

Santiesteban also took second place in the javelin with a throw of 166.67 feet and third place in the discus with a throw of 126.48 feet.

Other ELAC throwers included freshmen Jonathan Paredes (Alhambra HS) and Kyle Hua (Alhambra HS).

Paredes tossed a personal best in the shot put at 36.91 feet. Hua threw for 34.25 feet. In the discus Hua threw for 104.79 feet, Paredes 89.4 feet.

Four freshmen sprinted in the 100-meter dash for the first times in their ELAC careers.

They placed in the following order: Shiloh Jordan (Baltimore, MD Newton HS), Joshua Palmer (Baltimore, Randallstown HS), Sherrod Crayton (Manual Arts HS) and Arturo Martinez (Jefferson HS).

The Huskies next compete at the Oxy Carnival at Occidental College on Friday, March 11.
