MONTEREY PARK – The 2015-16 state runner-up East Los Angeles College women’s basketball team had four Huskies sign Letters of Intent / Scholarship Agreements today. All four women graduated in June with academic achievement recognition.

2015-16 State Championship All-Tourney Team and All-South Coast Conference North Division First Team recipient Jessica Sanchez (L.A. Roosevelt HS) will be transferring to Cal State Dominguez Hills on a full athletic scholarship.

“I am excited to move on to the next step, a four-year university,” said Sanchez. “I’m grateful for the ELAC women’s basketball program, which has helped me grow as a player, play smarter and be ready to play at the next level.”

Two-time All-SCC recipient Jocelyne Diaz (Whittier HS) will transfer to Cal State Dominguez Hills on a full athletic scholarship. She helped lead the 29-4 Huskies in 2014-15 to the Final Four.

2015-16 All-SCC North Division Second Team recipient Yasmine Tweedy will be transferring to Cal State Dominguez Hills where will receive a basketball scholarship next Spring.

2015-16 All-SCC North Division Second Team recipient Jasmine Gates (Gahr HS) will transfer to Concordia University, who awarded her athletic and academic scholarships. “I’ve learned so much as part of the ELAC women’s basketball team,” said Gates. “I grew into a leader, learning how to be compassionate and strong enough to get the job done.”

"I'm proud of all these young ladies as they represented ELAC around the state,” said ELAC Women’s Basketball Head Coach Bruce Turner. “Making an appearance in the State Championship game was a historic accomplishment. Women's basketball is at an all-time peak level. We have the best two assistant coaches, Sarai Trinidad and Wilbert Knight,” said Turner.

Turner, the State Coach of the Year in 2015-16 and 2012-13 awarded by the California Community Colleges Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and the Huskies have made four playoff appearances in the previous five years including the Elite-Eight in 2012.
