MONTEREY PARK, CA — There were no upsets in Round 1 of the Fifth Annual East Los Angeles College Husky Classic. East Los Angeles College (12-1), No. 1 in the state, defeated Imperial Valley College (0-9), 99-19.

No. 18 Saddleback College (12-4) won 79-56 vs. the University of Antelope Valley JV team (0-1); Moorpark College (10-6) won 73-47 against College of the Canyons (4-10) and Los Angeles Harbor College (7-8) won 76-69 against Oxnard College (2-12).

ELAC 99, Imperial Valley 19 – The Huskies started the game with a 13-0 run en route to a 26-9 first quarter lead. ELAC led 62-17 at the half. Sophomore guard Wuanyei Ah-Hing (West Auckland, New Zealand / Massey HS) scored half of her total 14 points in the second quarter.

The Huskies defense shut out Imperial Valley 17-0 in the third period. In the fourth period, Rebeca Larios scored Imperial Valley’s lone second-half points with a jump with 3:03 left in the game. She scored a team-high six points, as did teammate Roxana Olivos.

Five sophomores scored in double figures for ELAC, Anastasia Tsybaeva (Burbank HS) and Katrina Reeves (Orlando, FL / Dr. Phillips HS) each scored 18 points, Wuanyei Ah-Hing (West Auckland, New Zealand / Massey HS) scored 14, Allissa Gomez (Roosevelt HS) and Gloria Ortiz (Roosevelt HS) each added 12 points.

Saddleback 79, Antelope Valley JV 56 – Saddleback led 24-18 after the first period and 44-24 at the half. All five Saddleback starters scored in double figures led by forward Janae Omusi who scored a game-high 24 points. She had 10 rebounds for a double double.

Guard Laura Tapia scored 18 points and had three blocked shots. Guard Kara Ito had a tournament-high 12 assists. Ito averages 5.7 assists per game, sixth best in the state.

Harbor 76, Oxnard 69 – Harbor opened with a 10-0 lead and led until Oxnard took a 37-35 lead with 6:06 left in the third period. Harbor built leads of 11 points twice in the fourth period, but Oxnard crept within four points twice.

Each team had four starters score in double figures. Guard Tiffani Lucci, who is the fourth best scorer in the state, led Harbor with 26 points and 10 rebounds for a double double.

Oxnard had two Condors with double doubles, Richell Bequilla (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Zoe Bowden (12 points, 13 rebounds).

Moorpark 73, Canyons 47 – Moorpark outscored Canyons in each period. There were three lead changes and two ties in the first period, which ended with an 11-6 Raider lead. Moorpark increased its lead to a 33-17 at the half.

Four Raiders scored in double figures. Guard Elise Munoz-Albanez led the Raiders with 18 points followed by forward Havanna Yannello who scored 16. Guard Vanessa Desimone scored 11 points for the Raiders, had 10 assists and 6 steals.

Dayna Tanaka scored 22 points for Canyons and had five steals. Teammate Tasi Ramon hauled in 11 rebounds and had three assists.

Moorpark outscored Canyons 62-20 with points in the paint and 25-0 with points from the bench.

Tomorrow’s schedule: Consolation championship semifinals – Antelope Valley JV vs. Canyons at 1 p.m., Imperial Valley vs. Oxnard at 3 p.m. Championships semifinals – Saddleback vs. Moorpark at 5 p.m. and ELAC vs. Harbor at 7 p.m.
