Three wrestlers to compete today at state finals

FRESNO, CA — The East Los Angeles College wrestling team has three Huskies competing at the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association Wrestling State Championships today.  

Sophomore Johnny Robles (Downey High School) will meet Isaac Pilgrim of Sacramento City College in the first round of the 133 pound weight class.

Sophomore Juan Soto will meet the Isaiah Smith of Sacramento City in the 174 pound weight class.

Freshman Ned Estrada will be wrestling Coleman Maher of Skyline College in the 197 pound weight division.

Robles went 2-2 at the Southern Regionals to advance to the state finals including a 9-7 decision against Preston Gannon of Rio Hondo College.

Soto placed 6th at the Southern Regional to qualify for state.

He had an uphill battle to make state after losing by fall in the second round to eventual winner Andrew Binger of West Hills College.

Soto followed with a 12-2 major decision win in the consolation quarterfinals against Andrew Binger of Bakersfield College.

Estrada placed sixth at the Southern Regional to advance to state including a 16-4 major decision win in the second round against Anthony Stenschke of Cuesta College.
