WALNUT, CA — The East Los Angeles College wrestling team is without a win in dual meet competition, but Husky freshman heavyweight Brandon Sotomayor (Centennial HS) remains undefeated after the Mt. San Antonio College Duals held today.

Sotomayor 4-0 overall, recorded two falls in heavyweight matches at Mt. SAC in team losses to West Hills College, 24-19, and Mt. SAC, 34-15. Sotomayor has recorded three pins to date.

The Huskies showed improvement since their opening competition in Bakersfield. ELAC’s five-point loss to West Hills is a better than the 16-point ELAC 35-9 loss to the Eagles in Bakersfield.

Sophomore Jonathan Mandujano (Monrovia HS), who went 0-4 in Bakersfield, turned it around at Mt. SAC and finished the day with three wins and one loss.

Mandujano’s wins included a 6-4 overtime decision (West Hills), a 15-8 decision (Rio Hondo) and a 12-7 decision against Mt. SAC freshman Anthony Teitelbaum (Palisades HS) to stun the huge home crowd.

Other Husky highlights included:

125 pounds – Sophomore Joshua Garcia’s only win of the day in four matches was against freshman Nadia Escamilla of Cerritos College, one of two women on the Falcon roster.

141 pounds – Sophomore Alex Contreras (Montclair HS) was 2-2 for the day and is 4-4 overall. His wins were a 13-6 decision win vs. Rio Hondo College freshman Daniel Martinez (Mountain View HS) and an 8-5 decision vs. Cerritos freshman Vincent Dehakiz (El Dorado HS).
