Women's soccer stunned in 1-1 draw

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The No. 17-ranked (South Region) East Los Angeles College women’s soccer team was two minutes from a South Coast Conference win, but Pasadena City College scored a goal in the 88th minute to earn a 1-1 draw.

The Pasadena goal was an unassisted free-kick blast from freshman Sandra Ambrosio (El Monte High School).

The tie ends ELAC’s four-game win streak. ELAC, 8-6-3 overall and 6-1-3 in the SCC, however, has a five-game unbeaten streak.

Pasadena (6-9-2, 4-4-2) increased its unbeaten streak to six games.

ELAC scored in minute 25, a freshman Lizeth Delgado (Locke HS) goal from an assist by sophomore Tara Cofer (Los Altos HS).

ELAC had 11 shots on goal, five each saved from Pasadena freshmen goalies Monica Rogers (Temple City HS) and Natalie Martin (Rosemead HS).

The Huskies defeated Mt. San Antonio College 3-1 on Oct. 27 in Walnut.

ELAC built a 3-0 half lead.

Freshman Leslie Carballo (Bell HS) scored in the 7th minute (assist Cofer) and in the 24th minute with and assist by freshman Collen Tamashiro (La Serna HS).

Cofer added a goal in the 41st minute (assist Tamashiro).

Mt. SAC avoided a shut out with a goal in the 78th minute by sophomore Alondra Lopez (assist freshman Meagan Haight).

ELAC hosts El Camino College (5-8-4, 4-4-2) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
