WILMINGTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College women’s soccer team won 4-0 at Los Angeles Harbor College today after playing to a 1-1 draw against Golden West College on Wednesday.
With the South Coast Conference crossover win and non-conference draw, ELAC improves to 4-6-2 overall.
Against Harbor, ELAC scored all of its goals in the first half.
The wild physical game drew three cards in the first half, two of them red. Official times for each card were not recorded.
ELAC sophomore midfielder Jennifer Toledo (Bravo Medical Magnet High School) drew a red car as did Sarah De La Cruz of Harbor, sandwiched with a yellow card to Harbor’s Paige Kielbasa.
The Huskies opened the scoring when freshman Breanna Sandoval (Norwalk HS) midfielder spanked a blast off an assist by Toledo in the 11th minute.
Sophomore midfielder Vanessa Marin (Downey HS) scored unassisted in the 24th minute to make it 2-0 ELAC.
Five minutes later, sophomore midfielder Marilyn Castanon (Dominguez HS) scored ELAC’s third goal assisted by freshman forward Vanessa Torres (Bell Gardens HS) in the 29th minute.
Three minutes later, sophomore forward Stephanie Galvan (El Rancho HS) smashed a goal off an assist from Castanon in the 32nd minute.
It was Galvan’s fourth goal of the season. She leads the Huskies in scoring.
Against Golden West in a home game for the Huskies, the Rustlers scored first.
Freshman forward Cindy Ramirez (Mayfair HS) scored a goal off an assist by freshman forward Ashley Mora (Artesia HS) in the first half.
ELAC responded with a goal by freshman midfielder Breanna Sandoval (Norwalk HS), also in the first half.
It was Sandoval’s third goal of the season.
The Huskies host five-time defending State Champion Cerritos College (9-1-1) on Tuesday Oct. 17 at Weingart Stadium with a start time of 4 p.m.
Cerritos has a slight edge on paper based on common opponents this year.
