RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA — The East Los Angeles College volleyball team won six non-conference games, but still seeks its first conference win after a 3-1 upset loss to Chaffey College in South Coast North Division play.

The Huskies, 6-8 overall and 0-4 in the South Coast Conference North Division dropped a close 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15 match against Chaffey (2-13, 1-3).

ELAC freshman middle hitter Esther Duru (Lynwood HS) is No. 3-statewide-ranked in blocks-per-set, No. 7 in hitting percentage of attacks-per-set and No. 17 for kills-per-set.

Chaffey sophomore defensive specialist Clarissa Galvan and a team-high 12 kills with a .458 clip.

ELAC opened SCC North play with a 3-1 setback against Rio Hondo College (7-6, 2-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The Huskies followed with a 3-0 loss to No. 17-ranked Mt. SAC (12-1, 4-0) on Sept. 30 and a 3-1 loss at Pasadena City College (10-6, 3-1) on Wednesday.

Against Rio Hondo, the Huskies were down for most of the first set then rallied late for a 28-26 set win. Constant communication kept them in the set. ELAC dropped the last three sets 25-16, 25-22, 25-19. Lack of communication was key in the set losses.

ELAC had more kills than the Roadrunners 49-35 and more digs 70-35. Most of Rio Hondo’s points were at the net, something the Huskies did not duplicate.

Duru hit a team-high 15 kills and she had eight digs and two key service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Angela Wade (Port of Los Angeles HS) and freshman middle hitter Jasmine Andres (Bell HS) had 16 and 13 digs, respectively.

Duru hit a team-high 12 kills and two blocked shots in the Mt. SAC game.

In the Pasadena City sweep of ELAC, the Huskies had more kills in the first set, 12-9, but more errors 8-4. ELAC totaled 25 errors to just 14 for the host Lancers. Wade connected on a team-high 10 kills.

Up Next: The Huskies host Long Beach City College (10-3) in a conference crossover game on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in the South Gym. Admission is free.
