ELAC Men’s Track and Field Team Gets Personal Records at the Prelims
SAN DIEGO, CA — The East Los Angeles College men’s track and field team had four personal records at the Southern California Championship Prelims at San Diego Mesa College today.
All-American sophomore Joshua Taylor placed third in two events and is the lone Husky to advance to the SoCal Championship Finals.
For the second straight meet, Taylor had a personal record in the triple jump. His mark of 14.16 meters (46.46 feet) gives him a third-seed in finals. Taylor managed one good jump in three attempts (two fouls) in the long jump with a leap of 6.98 meters (22.90 feet), also good enough for a No. 3-seed. Taylor fouled on all three attempts in the high jump of 1.80 meters (5.91 feet).
Freshman Dijon Donaldson (Bellflower HS) ended his first season with two personal records in two events. He placed ninth out of 27 men in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 13.77 meters (45.18 feet).
Donaldson placed 12th out of 26 men in the high jump with a season best leap of 1.85 meters (6.07 feet). He returns next season with a Top-10 ranking in three events, the high jump, the long jump and the triple jump.
Freshman Jakob Tilford (Colony HS) ended his season with a personal record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.94. He placed 14th out of 24 men.
Freshmen Hector Gutierrez (South East HS) and Nicholas Hutson (Paramount HS) ended their season in the Prelims in the 4 x 100-meter relay along with Tilford and Taylor.
The Southern California Championship Finals will be at San Diego Mesa College on Saturday, May 13 all day. Three years ago, Taylor was the champion in the long jump.
